What is mastering?

Mastering should help a track to be the absolute best version of itself that it can be. It’s a process of refining, enhancing and sometimes correcting, whilst respecting and staying true to the original production values and genre.

Mastering should allow a track to connect with its audience as authentically and impactfully as possible, and to realise its full potential.

Achieving loudness that is competitive and appropriate for both platform and genre, whilst retaining the dynamic interest that gives your audio its character, is at the core of the mastering process.

Why me?

I have 20 years’ experience as a mastering engineer, and have worked with an extensive range of genres. I’ve spent a lifetime listening to all kinds of music both critically as a professional, and for the joy of it. I’ve been a professional musician, writer and producer, experiencing the process of making music from many angles.

This experience helps me to listen better and understand what’s needed in the mastering process. I put the client and their vision front and centre, working in a way that respects and collaborates with their artistic values to achieve what they want.

New clients

I understand that a successful mastering relationship is based on trust. If you’re a new client, I will master a track for you upfront at no cost so you can hear the result before committing. I want all my clients to feel confident and happy that their music is in safe hands before going ahead.

No hidden fees

I charge by the track, so there are no hidden fees or hourly-rate costs. The job of creating the best possible master of a track is done when it sounds the best it can, regardless of how long it takes.
